6 Week Monday Afternoon Pottery with Neil Hotchin – January

We are delighted that Neil Hotchin has agreed to take on teaching at Sundragon Community Pottery.

Neil’s work is inspired by a love of primarily wood fired ceramics, which has led him into a deep dive of thowing pots and firing them at various locations across the UK, in many shared and long firing wood fired kilns.

This six week course starts on Monday 4th January 2027, in our beautiful basement Studio 2 classroom, in Moseley School of Art, at Moseley Community Hub, 498, Moseley Road, on the corner of Lime Grove and Moseley Road. B12 9AH.

The course will take place every Monday Afternoon from 1.30pm – 4.00pm on the following dates:-

• 4th January
• 11th January
• 18th January
• 25th January
• 1st February
• 8th February

During the course you will learn how to “wedge”/prepare the clay ready for making.

Neil will teach you various methods of hand-building, and you will also be taught the beginnings of throwing on the potters wheel.

You will learn about surface decoration using coloured slips and various glazing techniques.

Throughout the course you will also learn “good studio practice”, the art of keeping your work area as clean/tidy as possible, thus, benefiting everyone.

This course is designed to be a short intensive introduction to ceramic life at Sundragon Community Pottery, and a general pottery class for anyone wishing to work under Neil’s supervision, to learn new, and hone existing, skills!
